Downy® Fabric Softener

  1. Soften new jeans. Fill your washing machine with water, add one capful of Downy Fabric Softener, soak the jeans overnight, then run through the rinse cycle and dry.
  2. Keep paintbrushes soft. Add a drop of Downy Fabric Softener to the final rinse.
  3. Give a waxed floor a healthy shine. Mix one-cup Downy Fabric Softener and one gallon hot water in a bucket, and mop the floor with the solution.
  4. Clean hard water stains from windows. Cover the stain with full-strength Downy Fabric Softener, wait ten minutes, then rinse with a damp cloth.
  5. Remove old wallpaper. Mix one capful of Downy Fabric Softener with one quart of hot water in a plastic bucket, sponge the wallpaper, wait twenty minutes, and peel off the paper.
  6. Freshen musty old furniture. Dampen a soft, clean cloth with Downy Fabric Softener, and rub it on the inside of the shelves, cabinets, and drawers.
  7. Clean glass and Plexiglas tabletops. Mix one capful of Downy Fabric Softener in a gallon of water in a plastic bucket, and sponge the tabletops with this lint-free cleanser.
  8. Reduce excess suds in a washing machine. If your washing machine is overflowing with suds because you accidentally added too much detergent, stop the machine, add the typical amount of Downy Fabric Softener as directed on the box, and restart the machine. In a few minutes, the amount of suds will diminish.
  9. Prolong the life of a bathing suit. After a swim in a chlorinated pool, mix one teaspoon Downy Fabric Softener in a bucket of cold water, and soak the bathing suit in the solution for fifteen minutes, and then rinse clean in cold water.
  10. Prevent dust from settling on a glass television screen. Mix two ounces Downy Fabric Softener and one cup of water, dampen a soft, clean cloth in the solution, and wipe the screen clean. Buff dry. The anti-static elements in the fabric softener prevent dust from adhering to the glass screen.
  11. Remove chewing gum from the inside of a dryer. Pour a few drops of Downy Fabric Softener on a scouring pad sponge and rub the gum. Wipe clean with a paper towel.
  12. Clean soap scum from shower doors. Mix one capful of Downy Fabric Softener with a quart of warm water in a plastic bucket, and use a clean cloth to wipe the shower doors clean.
  13. Make your own fabric softener dryer sheet. Fill a trigger spray bottle with one part Downy Fabric Softener and two parts water. Shake well, mist a clean, old washcloth with the solution, and toss the wet washcloth in the dryer with the clothes. Mist the washcloth for additional loads. Always shake the mixture well before using, and label the spray bottle to avoid any potential mishaps.
  14. Clean marble. Mix one-half cup Downy Fabric Softener and one-and-a-half cups of water in a sixteen-ounce trigger-spray bottle. Spray the solution on a sponge and scrub. Rinse well, and polish with a soft, clean cloth.
  15. Eliminate static shock on carpets. Mix one capful of Downy Fabric Softener into a spray bottle filled with water, and spray the carpets.
  16. Use as cream rinse for your hair. If you're out of cream rinse, use a drop of Downy Fabric Softener in your final rinse.
  17. Remove hairspray from walls, mirrors, floors, or countertops. Mix one part Downy Fabric Softener to two parts water in a clean trigger-spray bottle. Spray the solution on the hair spray, and wipe clean.
  18. Clean a stuffed animal. Mix one half cup Downy Fabric Softener, one tablespoon Dawn Dishwashing Liquid, and one quart warm water in a bucket. Apply the solution to the stuffed animal with a sponge, blot with a clean, soft towel, and let dry in the sun.
